Plasmodium is a single celled parasite, a eukaryotic organism, not a prokaryotic bacterium.  Possessing a nucleus allows it greater genomic sophistication than even multi-plasmid bacteria.

Malaria is a terrible scourge.  I hope to see significant progress against it.</description>
